Bullying has long been one of the less savory behaviors shown by some spouses in the wake of a divorce. Although this hasn’t changed, the method that bullies most often choose to attract the most attention has. A new breed of digital bullies are appearing on the web in Louisiana and the rest of the United States.

Bullies use the web to get attention

Going through a divorce can cause some people to become angry, resentful, and vindictive. They can sometimes turn to the web to vent their feelings of betrayal. The most likely place for them to do so will be on social media channels. These can include YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and others. These are places where a resentful spouse can leave some very hurtful comments.

Threatening to reveal private communication or financial info is a very serious offense. It can result in action that is mandated by the state or federal government. These types of actions can also cause you to suffer greatly when it comes to receiving the final settlement at the end of your divorce.

If you are being threatened in such a way by a former spouse, you can report the actions to the court as well as local authorities. It’s a good idea to keep a full record of all of the threats as you receive them in order to show the court.

Experts warn against the making of threats

Financial and legal experts caution against making any kind of comments on social media or the rest of the web. This is due to the fact that such comments can quickly be used against you during the divorce proceedings. The lawyer for the other side can produce them as evidence that will greatly harm your case.

You should also avoid sending letters or making phone calls that contain the threat of any action that will harm your spouse. This can be threats to reveal compromising pictures on the web that may hurt their family relations or get them fired from their job. This kind of action can result in legal trouble.
